Working Mechanism

ALTIC FRP 090 uses intumescent technology—a scientifically advanced system that reacts to heat exposure. When the surface temperature reaches approximately 200°C, the coating expands to form a thick, foam-like char layer. This layer performs three critical protective functions:

1. Thermal Insulation: The foam barrier blocks heat transfer to the substrate, keeping the underlying structure cooler and preventing ignition.

2. Oxygen Isolation: The char layer restricts oxygen supply, halting the combustion process.

3. Flame Resistance: It significantly reduces flame spread, smoke production, and toxic emissions.

This behaviour meets the standards outlined in ASTM E-162:01 (Flame Spread Test), ASTM E-662:06 (Smoke Generation Test), and ASTM E-84 (Surface Burning Test), ensuring compliance with NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) guidelines.

Application Procedure

1. Surface Preparation:
   Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and free from dust, oil, or contaminants.
   For metallic surfaces, apply WAHSU FR Primer (solvent-based).
   For cement or plaster walls, apply WAHSU FR Primer (water-based).

2. Coating Process:

   • Apply 7 coats of ALTIC FRP 090 for optimal performance.

   • Maintain 4-hour intervals between each coat.

   • For humid environments or added protection, apply two coats of WAHSU FR Topcoat.

   • Total dry film thickness should be at least 1.8 mm for 2-hour fire protection.

3. Application Equipment (Airless Spray):

   • Tip size: 19–25

   • Fan angle: 20°–40°

   • Pressure: 2500–3000 psi

   • Hose diameter: 10 mm

   • Maximum hose length: 60 meters

4. Topcoat & Maintenance:
   Once the base coats are fully cured, apply WAHSU FR Topcoat to enhance durability and moisture resistance. Damaged areas can be abraded and recoated after cleaning.

Drying & Overcoating Times

Drying times vary based on temperature and humidity. For instance:

• At 30°C and 30% RH, a thin coat requires approximately 4 hours for recoat.

• At higher humidity levels (70%), thicker coats may require 12–18 hours to dry completely.

Ensure adequate ventilation for uniform drying and film formation.

• Store between +5°C to +30°C.

• Do not expose to freezing conditions.

• Avoid temperatures above 25°C to maintain full 12-month shelf life.
